Substitute Teacher Training
Wisconsin school districts are finding it increasingly difficult to hire and retain qualified substitute teachers. In the state of Wisconsin,
recent legislation will allow individuals with an Associate degree or higher to become eligible to be a substitute teacher according to Wisconsin PI 34 (Act 59). NEW current substitute teachers and/or individuals interested in growing their skills as a substitute teacher are encouraged to attend this 2-day training.
Participants will receive a comprehensive introduction to substitute teaching, access to Foundations of Effective Substitute Teacher Training - MasterTeacher Online Courses, and guidance in obtaining a Three-Year Substitute Teacher License. To obtain a certificate of completion, participants must attend fourteen hours of face-to-face interactive training at CESA 11 plus two hours of outside learning.
Training Topics will Include:
Basic district and school policies and procedures
Age appropriate teaching strategies
Discipline, conflict resolution and classroom management techniques
Health and safety issues including handling medical emergencies
Techniques for starting a class
The culture of schools and the profession
Working with lesson plans
Educational technology use
Working with children with special needs, including confidentiality issues
