Welcome to the CESA 11 Social Studies Network page! The goal of this network is to build a collaborative community of learners that improves student outcomes in Social Studies. To achieve this goal, the network has three specific purposes:

  1. Facilitate collaboration among subject and/or grade-level social studies teachers

  2. Support best practices in Social Studies with a focus on Disciplinary Literacy and Inquiry

  3. Promote the value of Social Studies teaching and learning

The Inquiry Design Model (IDM)™ Three-Part Virtual Series

This IDM workshop is a hands-on opportunity for teachers to develop
Wisconsin Social Studies Standards aligned materials to use in their
classrooms and to join a larger community of educators who share an
interest in invigorating their classrooms through inquiry teaching and
learning. The workshop will feature the Inquiry Design Model (IDM)
TM, a unique approach to creating curriculum and instructional materials
while relying on teacher expertise and experience. How to create a
coherent assessment system using the IDM will also be examined so
that teachers can measure the impact of an inquiry approach on
student learning outcomes. If you are working on implementing
inquiry in your classrooms, school or district - then this workshop is
for you!
Participants will develop an IDM blueprint that begins with a
compelling question and moves to the elements necessary to support
students as they address that question in a thoughtful and informed
fashion. The workshop is designed to actively engage participants in
the construction of an inquiry by focusing on its key elements:
questions, tasks, and sources. In doing so, participants will
understand the conceptual foundations of inquiry and how to create
additional materials on content topics that resonate with their

CESA #11’s 1st Annual Social Studies Showcase will provide the opportunity for teachers to share lesson ideas in a conference format.  Teacher leaders from the region have created professional learning sessions that are focused on practical teaching ideas that can be implemented in your classroom. Showcase attendees can participate in sessions within the following areas:

  • Inquiry

  • Disciplinary Literacy

  • Standards-Based Practices

  • High-Engagement Instruction

  • Project-Based Learning

  • Elementary Content

  • Secondary Content
