SAGE - Student Achievement Guarantee in Education Program
The SAGE program began in the 1996-97 school year. The objective of the program is to improve student achievement through the implementation of four reform strategies: reducing class sizes to no more than 18:1 or 30:2 in grades K-3; increasing collaboration between schools and their communities; implementing a rigorous academic curriculum focusing on academic achievement; and improving professional and staff evaluation practices. SAGE is a State initiative aimed at funding class size reduction in grades K-3 and the implementation of the other reform strategies. The primary goals of the CESA #11 SAGE program are:
- To assure that all phases of each school district's SAGE project are in compliance with state law.
- To assist school districts in providing quality educational experiences for K-3 students and teachers.
Specific areas of assistance include the following:
- General Administration
- Dissemination of State guidelines
- Liaison to DPI
- Coordination with State Standards
- Project Implementation
- Application Development and Program Monitoring (SAGE Year-End Program Report and Contract Update)
- Fiscal Reports (SAGE Low Income Count Claim Form and SAGE Financial Report)
- Staff Development/Inservice

SAGE Performance Objectives: Schools will no longer be required to submit revisions or year end results of the annual performance objectives to DPI. Schools will need to continue to develop, update, and monitor its annual performance objectives, however, maintenance of the performance objectives will now take place at the local school level. Schools should maintain a record of its current performance objectives and be able to provide this information if requested by DPI.
