Healthy, Safe and Respectful Schools Program
Purchasing the Healthy, Safe and Respectful service provides districts with the following opportunities:
• Staff Development offerings and other updates via email and UPDATE Newsletter. Workshops have included professional development in a variety of topics including:
- School Safety
- Pupil Services Team Training
- Character Education
- Mental Health (ITV series)
- Responsive Classroom
- TATU training for students in middle school and high school
- Peer Mediation training for El. and Middle School students
- Bullying/Cyberbullying Prevention
- School Health/ Physical Education/ Coaching
*Movin’ and Munchin’ Schools
*Health Literacy Assessments
*Specific staff development for physical education teachers and coaches
• School Counselor Network Meetings (3 times/year)
• Access to CESA #11 teacher written curriculum(s) and resource kits to support classroom instruction. Curriculum and kits are revised on a rotating basis every 3-4 years by CESA #11 staff and select educators using these curriculums in their classrooms. Curriculum training/review is offered as each revision is completed. Technical assistance is available via phone/email on an ongoing basis. Curriculums include:
- Life Skills - up to a 90-hour (semester) curriculum focusing on “Life Skills” for grades 8-10. Compliant with WI ACT 134 - State Statute 118.019
- You Can Tell – personal body safety curriculum for grades K-6. (State Statute 118.01(2)(d)8)
- Puberty Education – for grades 4-6
• Collaboration with the Department of Public Instruction’s Student Services Prevention and Wellness Team Initiatives i.e. Pandemic Flu workshop, Suicide Prevention Tool Kit Training, Fitness Gram workshop, Wellness Policy, Bomb Threat training
• Attendance at state-level and regional meetings and dissemination of information and materials to our schools.
• Collaboration with other agencies to support additional classroom resources. Examples include:
- Alvi’s Awesome Lung Adventure – American Lung Association
- Fit Kids – Green Bay Packers
• UPDATE newsletter (published 3 times/year)
• Healthy, Safe and Respectful Schools Advisory Committee – local educators offer guidance to program implementation and updates.
In support of the programming and services listed above districts also have access to the Healthy, Safe and Respectful Schools Instructional Materials Library, which includes over 2,700 media resources that total over $197,000. Assistance in resource matching to health related curriculum and standards is also available, (contact Cindy Becker, cindyb@cesa11.k12.wi.us).
